History
The olive tree has been known since antiquity, its true origins are unknown, it may be native to the countries of the eastern Mediterranean. According to the mythology of ancient Greece, the olive tree originated in Athens and the first olive tree was planted by Pallas Athena in the Acropolis.
The Greeks were the first to cultivate the olive tree in the European Mediterranean area; they were brought by Greek settlers or Phoenician merchants.
According to Pliny the Elder, in 580 BC, neither ancient Rome, Spain nor Tunis knew about the olive tree and its cultivation.

The olive and nutrition
The olive, fruit of the olive tree (fruit of the olea europaea) is essential in Mediterranean nutrition both as an edible fruit and in the form of olive oil.
